Business + Marketing > Integration with 3rd Party Mailing list provider (like MailChimp)

Hi Everyone,
This is my first day posting to this community. I am about to launch my first SQ site - porting over from another CMS.

My question is does anyone have any experience / recommendations relative to using 3rd party email list management / e-newsletter type providers. I am signing up with MailChimp, but there are many.

I will have restricted access zones in my SQ site. So, people need to sign-up for that. Is there a way to populate both SQ and a 3rd party when the user signs up? Via an API? (I am a business user, not technical.)

In fact, if someone has done it, I would be happy to pay to have the two hooked up.

In any case, advice very welcome. Thanks so much.

Ian

Hi Ian, Sounds like you need opt-in type campaign ware ... two others come to mind you could check out - ConstantContact (pricier than mailchimp but more robust and very configurable) - and "AWeber" which is also popular... Sorry I can't help on API.

I have found that "Mailbuild" is a great and robust email solution as well.

On a slightly different note I like the "Listbox" service, because I can enter in a url of my site and have that sent as the email newsletter - no need to make a seperate email newsletter, I can just update my blog and send that url, send any page in my Squarespace site, or even setup a specific journal for the newsletter and keep it archived and accessible in my site ... of coarse also being able to edit it the same way I edit any page in my Squarespace site. I love this functionality!!!

Dana I totally like that idea too- its much more accessible to people and they get the point in less than 3 seconds (ie: HERES NEWS!) -- great alternative!

I use MailDiva but Listbox sounds like a great solution. I'll have to check that out.

This is a really interesting and frustrating problem for me at the moment too, I'm using MailChimp but I have to load the members in for newsletters etc.

Is there a way to automatically sync members in a mailer app/autoresponder etc. with members in our SS audience?

Campaign Monitor has an API for integrating with Web apps, sites and services. (hint, hint)

Ian Christie, did you figure out how to integrate Mailchimp & SquareSpace?

Hey everyone.

What language would I use to interact with the API though? Seeing that I can't use PHP...

Thanks!

I'm quickly learning that this is the major disadvantage of Squarespace. You can't customize the programming.... at all. There is no API and there is no PHP or JSP. You just can't do it.

MailChimp has a JSONP callback service to allow for subscriptions via JavaScript only. Instead of using an apikey, which you don't want to have public for security reasons, it uses another generated code that seems to only gives access to the subscribe feature. MailChimp will generate the code for you to paste into your page.
Login to your MailChimp account, go to the 'lists' tab, click "design signup forms", select a list. Once you have customized the form to your liking, click the 'get embed code' at the top the page. there will be a text area with the code you can paste into your squarespace page. be sure to switch the edit mode to HTML when you are editing the content of a page.

Hi Folks,

Just in on the 30 day trial, trying to help a client figure out if they can integrate with MailChimp. Understand that PHP is out. Want to know if anyone has implemented the JSON suggestion made by John Lockwood.

Anyone? Anyone?

I'm also trying square Space while I weigh the pros and cons and consider other options... not being able to synch with Mail Chimp is a huge strike against Square Space. I'm still exploring less than 24 hours into my trial but stumbled up against this issue already. At least I'm glad to see this question (and lack of answer)has already been brought up so I don't have to spend more hours trying to figure it out on my own.

This may be a really stupid question, but why doesn't Squarespace allow php? I'm currently using a different CMS that doesn't have all the WYSIWYG capabilities which leaves me totally dependent on contract programmers for making all changes. I know they have used PHP to integrate with our CRM and email platform. Just wondering if someone can fill me in on why the same integration cannot be done on a SQ site. Thanks!
