Design + Coding > Yahoo Pipes Embed breaks Dropdown Navigation

I am having a problem embedding my yahoo pipes code into my site (http://www.razorstrike.com). I have removed it for now, but want to now if anyone else is having the same problem.

I created a new Journal page and added into the header my yahoo pipes blog feed as a secondary blog on my page. I have also tried adding it to a regular Text/HTML page and it still does it. In the edit mode, all functionality of the editor stops working. I can no longer modify or delete anything on the page. I have to go to a different page, delete the page from there and recreate it to start over.

The only code I am adding is the copied script from the the pipes > badge >embed code. I pasted it below (mines the brackets).

script src="http://l.yimg.com/a/i/us/pps/listbadge_1.1.js">{"pipe_id":"a7b44d4eb2003121acffa2f2d0ac3f52","_btype":"list"} /script

I enabled the page (called "Test Feed") so that you can see the loss of the dropdown navigation just on that page with the feed pulled in.

I came to the community forum because I was having an issue similar to yours. I cannot toggle between the editing and configuration modes on just one folder and it's subfolder contents. I had not had a problem before and have had Yahoo pipes embedded for quite sometime. But as I logged on I noticed that some data was not being retrieved.

Later, I was going to attempt the same pathway that you had gone, so far as recreating a page and starting over.

It may be issues on the server end of Yahoo. I guess researching for breaks and glitches on that end will be of benefit also.

I didn't have any problems for the first couple days I had it up. I am guessing that one of two things happened...

1) Squarespace changed their code somewhere and the scripts that Yahoo's pipes run is messing it up, or
2) Yahoo changed their code somewhere and the scripts are messing up Squarespace's functionality.

Whatever it is, it has just happened over the last 36-48 hours.

Anyone else know what might have happened?

Travis (and C.R.),

I agree that there must be a conflict between the Yahoo! code that SQ is using, and the code you added. Since you have not modified any Squarespace code, and just dropping a Yahoo! script on your page is causing standard SQ functions to stop working, SQ Tech Support may be willing to ask a developer to take a look at this problem. It's worth a try. Point out that you are not doing any special customization, just adding a standard script on a page. There may be a simple way to wrap your script so that it does not clash with the Squarespace code.

Please post the response here, for the benefit of the rest of us :)

Hi Travis,

We've taken a look at this issue and found that Yahoo Pipes is incompatible with YUI 2.8, which Squarespace upgraded to recently. The Yahoo Pipes script is currently depending on older versions of YUI (2.3 and 2.4).

I would recommend contacting the Pipes team to see if they plan on upgrading their YUI dependencies. In addition, we are looking into other solutions to this issue on our end.

Thanks,
Jamie
