I just tried entering a brand new account name and pw in the "Add Managed Account" fields on my master account site. That generated an error message saying that it was unable to process the input and to re-enter the account name and/or password. I conclude that you have to create the new trial account separately before you can add it to your site as a managed account.
If this still does not address your concern, you could file a support ticket. They are usually helpful in situations where people are juggling accounts.

To manage the billing for more than one site, you will have to have a separate site setup first and then import this sub-account into the master account using the Developer Dashboard under the Account Center tab. If you don't already have a separate account, you can create one by signing up here:

As a Note: The Master Account has to be set to Monthly Billing first.
Additionally, since you are going to be canceling the Main account after the design swap, I don't think you need to go this route yet. You could just do this with setting up a trial account, and then setting it up with your old content and new design. Once done, you can cancel the Main account, and set the new account up with a Paid Plan.
If this is too much, you can always switch to a V5 layout at any time. There is a guide in the manual for doing this here:

Hi Chris and Michael! Thanks for the help! I actually ended up just creating a new "trial" because WHAT A MESS with the old layout on V4 and SO many "hacks" from back like 3 years! No way-- just set up a new one so I will likely be bother (MICHAEL :))) - to move the new account over soon as I am done (which feels like forever right now urg!)
AND: not to be too personal but I would like you to know (and anyone else) my absence has been due to a very (very) serious health issue --- I know an explain is not required- but just wanted to let folks know why - and not that I just "took off"... I will likely be floating in an out of here as time allows (for the next few months at least) --- but I miss everyone and feel completely LOST on all the new stuff!

Hi there! I am looking for help with the "add account" feature in SQ. Does anyone know how that works? what I need to do is start a whole new site from scratch and trying to revamp an existing one isn't going to work for me (because it's on V4 and just too time consuming to strip all the workarounds out)--- if I add a NEW account will that allow a fresh start or do I need to go in an actually create a whole new SQ account via trial user and then cancel the original account?
I can't find an answer to this anywhere and appreciate the input.
