Features + System > URL not showing up on google search

Hi, I don't know if anyone can help, I wouldn't call myself a developer but anyway...

My url is just not showing up in google, and I have no idea why. I am aware that squarespace is optimized for search engines, and I know that my ranking will be directly related to the relevance of my content, but I have made sites before, and it usually takes less than a week for it to show up if you search the url. Mine however, is nowhere and I cannot figure out why.

If anyone could help, that would be excellent, I am getting to the last few pieces of hair to pull out now.

Thanks,

Tristan

Tristan,

Try setting up a Google Webmaster Account:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

Also, search for your URL in Yahoo to see if they got it.

When I first setup my Blog on Squarespace, I had to fight with Google to get me listed. My old Tumblr Blog content on my domain was 404'ing and it was bumping my new SS site out and as far down the Google hole as it could.

Took awhile, but now my URL is page 1 / 1st entry

Your site is in Yahoo and not Google.

Has it been submitted to them?

The only brand new SQ site I've created (Rather than a retool of an older domain) was indexed within a week without me doing anything but I credit that to the pinging the journal does. You are not blogging so you don't have that automatic assist.

DO create a webmaster account at both Google and Yahoo (the give you different info).

Tristan,

When my site first went live on Squarespace I had the same issue. When I searched my company name in Yahoo, I was #2 and when I searched my company name on Google my site wasn't even being indexed.

I set up a Google Webmaster account (see: http://www.google.com/webmasters/) but that didn't seem to work. I asked Google to be indexed and that didn't work.

What did work, was that I submitted a SiteMap to Google through the Google Webmaster account following the sitemap.org protocols (see: http://www.sitemaps.org/protocol.php) and instructions on Google Webmasters. My sitemap had 12 URLs in it.

The complexity with Squarespace is that your SiteMap will be loaded into your file storage area that's within your sitename.squarespace.com site not your www.sitename.com site. I had to have Google approve me as webmaster for both www.lakeshoreadvisory.com and lakeshoreadvisory.squarespace.com. My Sitemap refers only to www.lakeshoreadvisory.com/ URLs.

Within 48 hours of submitting my sitemap, my Squarespace site had been indexed by Google and I was #2 in search on my company name.

Hope this helps.
