Features + System > iPhone App is now up and running | Tell squarespace what you think!
Superb news. I've been waiting all month for this.
You guys did a great job. I totally love it. It would be nice though if you'd have included the capability to edit content on pages. I can do that with my Wordpress app, and it would have been nice to be able to do it with Squarespace too.
okay - so i've been peeing my pants in excitement over this app coming out.. and now i'm not so sure it'll meet my needs! :(
all i want to be able to do is blog from it - unsurprisingly - however the majority of my blog posts will be image heavy. i was excited that this would mean i could just transfer iphone photos into a blog post - which you CAN DO, obviously - but then there's no choice over placement - not even whether they appear at the beginning or the end. i want to be able to put images throughout a post, and also make choices about orientation of images and other minor things which you can do when blogging through the site. i don't honestly know anything about iphone's capabilities and whether this is something beyond the technology of the phone, but i'd be surprised if it was.
also, links - if we include them in the post do we just write them in raw html? if so, that's fine for me - but surely many other users love the wysiwyg nature of the squarespace platform and would be at a loss of how to include links in blog posts?
just a few niggles, but enough to make me less excited about the app..
a.
Please add Markdown support. Also, it looks like only the account owner can login to post. Other editors should be able to login and use the app as well (my wife wants to be able to post from the cool app too). It is crashing like crazy for me. I had the beta app that was out for a bit and then removed and it was great. Maybe I need to delete and re-install...
It won't load anything for me. Anyone else having this problem??
It definitely crashes the first launch, every launch for me. But then works fine.
As an iPhone developer (an one who writes some iPhone doc for Apple since I'm an employee) I have to say this is an EXCELLENT app.
Another excited Squarespace iPhone app user here. Great job; the new app is so exciting, and it's been fun to try it out!
After "blogging the process" of my first couple of (successful) attempts at using the app, I thought I'd post some wonky results here, to be more helpful as you iron out the kinks.
A few hours ago, I wrote a few lines using the app, added a photo, then went over to select some categories. Unlike the first two times I used the app, my categories didn't appear. Here's what it looked like. About to start a meeting, I went ahead and saved the post, synced it, then - with a bit more time to spare - peeked in on my blog on my computer. The post didn't show up as a draft.
Now, post-meeting, I went in to investigate again. The text and photo still show up as a draft in my iPhone, categories are still unavailable, and the draft is still not visible on my computer. Thinking a reboot might help, I turned off my phone for 20 seconds or so. After logging back in, nothing seemed to have changed.
Hope these details help.
Thanks again for the app. I can't wait to see how it evolves over time!
I would love to try it but I cannot login on it. I use the same login as my page, but no dice.
This may be a double post, but I didn't see this topic until I'd already posted to another topic. Here's my feedback. Love the Squarespace app. Love it. A couple of nits that I'm sure the App wizards are already at work on.
-As others have mentioned, image orientation. More specifically, when I Add from Library, the App flips the image 90 degrees whether I've actually shot the image in landscape or portrait mode. Rotation control over the image would be nice.
-The only way I was able to successfully load an image was to take a new picture, then save the entry immediately after pressing "Use This" on the camera screen.
-I too had a couple of crashes when moving from the Edit tab to the Picture Tab. Additionally, the App would sometimes shut down immediately after it confirmed a successful posting of my entry.
-Sure, landscape mode typing would be nice. But it's not a deal killer for me by any stretch.
To the good, the App is beautiful, and it's clear to me that the App builders and designers love working within the Apple iPhone UI guidelines. As a result, the App feels native AND it feels consistent with Squarespace's overall design vibe.
Nice work.
As a follow-up to my earlier post, I wanted to write again, now that I discovered what happened to my categories, and why I couldn't see my draft when logged onto my site on a computer.
Although I'd selected my main blog as the default journal for posting from within the Squarespace iPhone app, something apparently happened to cause it to default to a journal I sometimes use for drafting blog posts I don't want to get buried in my main blog. That journal has no categories set, which is why I got the blank screen where I'd expected to see my usual list. Voila!
Now that I know it's possible I could be working in a different journal when I start a new post, I'll know to pay closer attention to the titles of earlier pieces, which provide easy clues to whether or not I have to select a different journal before drafting. Lessons learned!
Meanwhile, I have to reiterate... I really do love this app.
Cheers!
Hi!
Just spent a little time with the app I've been waiting for so long. Is there a way to put hyperlinks into blog entries?
Right now, even if I enter a link directly (e.g. http://www.google.com) into a blog post via the iPhone, I don't get a clickable link.

Well fellow Squarespacers, it's finally here! Apple finally came through and after months of reviewing and accidentally uploading the beta, the real app in live in iTunes.
This app is perfect for a Squarespacer who has a blog or just wants to check their stats on there page. Features include Blog management, site stats, posting blogs, preview, multiple accounts, editing post, even uploading multiple images in real time to your site.
Also, one of my editors did an amaizing post about the app, we will also have a review soon at t3chh3lp.com
