# Overview of the Squarespace MCP Server

The Squarespace MCP server connects AI assistants and agents to Squarespace. Built on the [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io), an open standard for connecting AI applications to external tools, it lets clients like Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini call Squarespace tools mid-conversation and return live results.

Today the server provides domain tools: brand-aware name generation, real-time availability and pricing, and a checkout link for every available domain. A user can go from describing a new business to a registered domain without leaving the chat. Domains registered on Squarespace can be paired with a website and professional email at checkout.

## Available tools

**domains_generate_names:** Generate brandable name and domain ideas from a plain-language description of a business, product, campaign, or project. Returns creative, on-brand suggestions rather than keyword permutations, so it works from intent ("a ceramics studio in Portland focused on classes") as well as from an established brand name.

**domains_search:** Check real-time availability and pricing for a specific domain or keyword across supported TLDs. Every available result includes current pricing and a direct checkout link.

## How it works

The Squarespace MCP server is a remote server. There is nothing to install or run locally; your MCP client connects directly to:

**No authentication required.** The server is open: no API key, OAuth flow, or Squarespace account is needed to connect or call tools.

**Tools are read-only.** No tool registers a domain or charges a payment method. Purchases happen only when a user follows a checkout link to squarespace.com and completes the standard checkout flow there.
