domains_generate_names

Description

Generate brand and business name ideas from a free-text description. Results are grouped by tone (neutral, playful, professional, friendly, informative, quirky). This tool returns names only, not registered domains—use domains_search afterward to check availability and get checkout links.

When to use: The end user describes a business or project in natural language and does not yet have a keyword or brand—for example "a dog grooming side hustle" or "a ceramics studio in Portland". If they already have a name or keyword, use domains_search instead.

Example intents: "Help me name my consulting firm", "I need a domain for my bakery" (start here for naming, then search).

Connected MCP clients receive additional tool instructions from the server at runtime. Those are not duplicated here.

Input schema

Pass these fields inside arguments.body on tools/call.

ParameterTypeRequiredDescription
descriptionstringYesFree-text description of the business or idea, e.g. 'an artisan coffee roaster in Portland'. A full phrase/sentence is expected here.

Example tool call

Server URL: https://mcp.squarespace.com/mcp. Send a JSON-RPC tools/call message (your MCP client handles transport):

JSONCode
{ "jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": "1", "method": "tools/call", "params": { "name": "domains_generate_names", "arguments": { "body": { "description": "an artisan coffee roaster in Portland" } } } }

If you call the server over HTTP directly (for example when debugging), use headers Content-Type: application/json and Accept: application/json, text/event-stream.

Example response

JSON-RPC envelope

JSONCode
{ "jsonrpc": "2.0", "id": "1", "result": { "_meta": {}, "content": [ { "type": "text", "text": "<stringified JSON — parse this string as JSON>" } ], "isError": false } }

Tool payload (parse result.content[0].text)

The text string is JSON with:

  • description — echoes the description you sent in arguments.body.
  • suggestions — array of name groups. Each item has:
    • tone — label for the group (for example Neutral, Playful, Professional, Friendly, Informative, Quirky).
    • names — array of brandable name strings (not domains; run domains_search on favorites next).

Example payload (responses typically include all six tones; suggested names vary):

JSONCode
{ "description": "an artisan coffee roaster in Portland", "suggestions": [ { "tone": "Neutral", "names": [ "Portland Artisan Roasters", "Northwest Coffee Craft", "Cascade Coffee Roasters" ] }, { "tone": "Playful", "names": [ "Bean There Roasted That", "BrewHaha Coffee", "Perky Portland Beans" ] } ] }

Example user request

"Help me come up with a name for a ceramics studio in Portland that focuses on classes."
